Wave your Flag

Hope everyone had a great Independence Day!
We took advantage of the July 4th sales and bought a refrigerator!

I also made THE flag cake.
It's such a fun tradition!

We had a BBQ and watch fireworks with our small group!

I wanted to get married on July 4th.  I decided this four years ago (2005).
I was told the next time the fourth would be on a Saturday would be in 2009.
Seemed like forever....
That was my plan....so glad we didn't wait.

Green witch, Green trim

Last night we saw Wicked the musical!  It was SOO good, if they come to your city you must go!    I love musicals, but Ronnie not so much.  Like last summer we watched Mama Mia and he was mad because they kept singing. He said, "If they sing one more song, I'm walking out!!!!"  Luckily, he didn't, but he really hated the movie.  I don't think it helps that I play the soundtrack all the time and try to make him "sing" the male parts.

But after last night, I think R's attitude has changed. He was waving his arms in the air, shouting BRAVO! and dancing in the aisle...ok not really, but he did like. He's even talking about going to see another show sometime soon.
And guess what....MAMA MIA will be here in September!

SUMMER PROJECT
I love reading blogs about home decorating..... especially if it's easy projects.
I was inspired by a friend to jazz up my classroom curtains.

Aren't they boring?!?

I went to JoAnn's and found this sassy pom pom trim for only $6.
I hot glued it to the edge of the fabric and....

TA-DAH!

I'm really proud of them.  It was inexpensive and so easy!
Can't wait to hang them in my classroom!

Pack Attack!

Tip: When looking for free packing boxes, try Wal-Mart after midnight.  The employees are restocking the shelves and do not mind if you take the boxes!  I did this before we moved to San Antonio, but I learned a little trick tonight!  Go straight to the frames and pillow section.  I walked away with huge boxes and even bubble wrap.  All for FREE!

Let the packing begin!

PS Can't wait to tell you more about our new house!

Decisions

UPDATE: Occasionally I will see a fruit fly, but I think I have gotten rid of most of them!  I've been cleaning with bleach and keeping fruit in the refrigerator. Thanks for your comments!

For the past months, we have been house hunting.  We have finally found one that we both love and things have been going pretty smoothly.  We hope to close beginning of July.
So now I have to start making decisions!!  eeek!

First question:  What kind of refrigerator should we buy?
We have looked at Lowe's, Sears, Home Depot., and Best Buy.
Any suggestions on brand? style? color?

I wish I could snap my figures and everything would be painted, sewed, and in place at the new house.   I'm really bad at making decisions :(

Fruit Flies

Fruit flies have now taken over my kitchen.  I think it's from the pineapple and mango I bought last weekend.  My mom sent all these tips for killing them!  This one seems a little morbid, but if they aren't gone by tomorrow I will not be afraid to try it!

Make an oven trap:

  • Remove all available food from kitchen. Clean the dishes, place open items in ziplock bags or the fridge.
  • Open the door of your oven and place a piece of fruit (banana or kiwi peels) in there overnight.
  • Wake up early the next morning and quietly close the oven door.
  • Turn on the oven to 400ºF/200ºC for about 10-15 minutes and majority of your fruit flies will be gone.
  • Clean the oven thoroughly.
